Burns & McDonnell was founded in 1898, engineering, construction and consulting company.
The firm began work in Austin in 1922, when we were engaged to assess viable options to expand and upgrade the city’s waterworks system. Since that time, we have executed landmark projects in the city, such as the design and construction of the Seaholm Power Plant (completed in 1951), now listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
Today, Burns & McDonnell is a family of companies with an unmatched team of 10,000 engineers, construction and craft professionals, architects, consultants, scientists and more to design and build our world’s most critical infrastructure. Our singular mission is to make our clients successful. When we plan, design, permit, construct and manage projects worldwide, we do it like we own it.
Burns & McDonnell is a 100% employee-owned company. We tackle every technical challenge, every complex detail, with the intent and attention of an owner. It’s what brings our clients back, project after project.
We deliver projects with an integrated construction and design mindset, because everything is connected — design, procurement, sequencing the construction site. We leverage our knowledge, technology and commitment of ownership to deliver safe, innovative and quality projects.
Our local Austin-based team specializes in front-end consulting, complete environmental services and full-service design/build delivery. We are investing in our ability to support the continuous and rapid growth we’re experiencing throughout Central Texas, developing projects in markets such as renewable energy, commercial buildings, high-tech manufacturing and transportation.
