Every great city has its important events and moments…. and for Austin, Austin Tech Week is one of them. For more than a decade, this annual gathering has brought together entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and community champions to celebrate what makes Austin unique as a tech hub.
Formerly known as Austin Startup Week, this five-day event has evolved alongside the city itself. What began in 2011 as a grassroots celebration of entrepreneurship has grown into a full-scale showcase of innovation, highlighting the companies that helped launch Austin’s startup scene and the leaders who continue to drive its momentum. Today, Austin Tech Week stands as a cornerstone event for anyone who believes in the power of connection, collaboration, and community.
Why Austin Tech Week Matters
Austin’s rise as a leading technology ecosystem didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of decades of vision, risk-taking, and collaboration across companies, investors, universities, and civic leaders. Events like Austin Tech Week (and others hosted by ATC, the Chamber, Austin Women in Technology, etc…) remind us of those roots. They serve as both a celebration of how far we’ve come and a call to action for how we can continue to shape the future.
Capital Factory, along with Jacqueline Hughes and a wide range of partners, has built something extraordinary. They’ve created an event that unites the brightest minds across industries, drawing thousands of participants each year. More than just a conference, Austin Tech Week is a festival of ideas… an opportunity to learn, connect, and build relationships that move the community forward.
The Austin Technology Council (ATC) is proud to support this important annual event. While it’s not our program, it reflects the very values we champion: community, connection, and collaboration. Our mission is to shine a light on everything that strengthens Austin’s tech ecosystem, and Austin Tech Week does exactly that. ATC will be hosting a session during tech week in 2025, and look to find ways to help promote the whole event.
Collaboration Is the Austin Advantage
One of the defining characteristics of Austin’s success has been its collaborative spirit. Unlike some tech hubs that are known for cutthroat competition and individuals and groups that need to dominate, Austin has built a culture where organizations, founders, and leaders lift each other up. Austin Tech Week exemplifies that ethos by bringing together the entire community; startups, scale-ups, investors, enterprises, and civic leaders under one banner.
At ATC, we believe that collaboration is the only way Austin will continue to lead among emerging tech hubs and global innovation centers. We can’t rest on past successes. The challenges facing the tech sector today… whether in talent, infrastructure, regulation, or investment… require us to work together more intentionally than ever. Events like Austin Tech Week are where those conversations begin.
Shining the Light on What Matters – Austin Tech Week
As Austin continues to grow, it’s easy to get swept up in headlines about funding rounds, unicorn valuations, or relocations of big companies. While those stories are exciting, they’re only part of what makes our city thrive. The real strength of Austin’s tech community lies in its people… the innovators, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders who show up, contribute, and collaborate.
Austin Tech Week shines a spotlight on both the established players and the rising stars. It’s a chance to honor the companies that have gone from scrappy startups to industry leaders, while also creating space for the next generation of entrepreneurs to share their vision. That mix of legacy and fresh energy is what makes Austin so dynamic.
Looking Ahead
Austin’s tech story is still being written, and Austin Tech Week is an annual reminder that our best days are ahead. By staying true to our roots as a collaborative, community-driven ecosystem, we can continue to lead the way in shaping the future of technology… not just for Central Texas, but for the world.
The Austin Technology Council is committed to supporting every effort that strengthens our ecosystem. Whether through our own events, partnerships, or amplifying the great work of others, we know that collaboration is key. Austin Tech Week is a shining example of what happens when people come together with a shared purpose: to connect, to innovate, and to build a future that benefits us all.
