Austin is Still Being Chosen

Austin is still bein chose. The Austin Technology Council is seeking the real leaders who are willing to show up and have conversations with anyone and everyone about the future. Now is not the time for conversations in bubbles. We need to unite the whole community.

Every week, there are new signals about where Austin is headed.

Some are loud. Some are subtle. Some show up in funding announcements, company relocations, campus expansions, university partnerships, or conversations happening quietly between founders, executives, investors, and civic leaders.

But when you look at the bigger picture, one thing remains clear: Austin is still being chosen.

Companies are still moving here. Founders are still building here. Universities are still expanding the talent pipeline. Investors are still paying attention. Big companies are still making long-term decisions in Central Texas.

This week, Partly, an AI company focused on the automotive industry, announced it is moving its global headquarters from New Zealand to Austin. NXP is preparing for a new Northwest Austin campus. UT Austin continues to play a national role in semiconductor workforce development. Venture funding in Austin remains strong. And the broader business community continues to see Central Texas as a place where talent, capital, research, and ambition intersect.

None of this means Austin is perfect. We still have work to do. Affordability matters. Infrastructure matters. Connectivity across the ecosystem matters. And if we want the next generation of companies to grow here, we have to be intentional about helping founders, executives, investors, universities, nonprofits, and civic leaders work together.

The story of Austin tech has never belonged to any single chapter or era in time. It is built across decades, across industries, across waves of people who showed up and decided to plant a flag here. The best days of Austin are still in the future. It is important that we understand the past (and newcomers should be curious about how Austin became Austin), but it is what we do in the present that will build our tomorrow.

Austin has always been at its best when people show up, make introductions, share ideas, take risks, and help others build. That is the work ahead.

At Austin Technology Council, we believe this region’s future will be shaped by community, collaboration, and conversations. Not slogans. Not pontificating in private rooms. Actual conversations. Across industries. Across company size. Across job titles. Across the old guard and the next generation.

Austin is still being chosen. Now we have to keep choosing each other.

The Austin Technology Council was founded in 1992 to help bring the tech community together and encourage community, collaboration, and conversations. This purpose is more important today, and we invite the people who want to be the leaders of Austin’s tech community to be engaged and help us unite the tech ecosystem.
