Building What’s Next for Austin Tech

The future of Austin's tech community is now in the hands of a coalition of people. Large companies, startups , growth companies, universities, policy makers, and the business non-profits that serve the ecosystem. But if these groups work against each other and all different agendas, then we will stall out. The Austin of 2036 depends on if leaders can find ways to work together. Community, collaboration, and conversations are key Austin thriving in the future. But if any one person, or group of people, think they need to be the ultimate leaders... then we cannot keep the growth going. Small towns can have personalities that dominate and are the center of all decisions,.... but now that we are 2.5 million people we need to think like a big city and create coalitions of organizations that will work together. The time is now for Austin tech to show the world how a city expands from being a breakout tech hub to being a global leader in innovation. Austin is the city that can do this. We are not trying to compete with the Silicon Valley or New York, we are writing a whole new script of how a region flourishes in the new world of today. The Austin Technology Council is seeking the leaders of tomorrow.

Austin’s place as a leading technology hub is no longer a question. The energy, talent, investment, and innovation flowing through this region have made that clear. But the next chapter will not be defined simply by growth. It will be defined by how intentionally this community chooses to shape that growth.

That is where the Austin Technology Council is headed.

ATC is focused on being the place for community, collaboration, and conversation. Those are not just ideas that sound good on paper. They are the foundation of every strong ecosystem. Thriving tech communities are built when leaders come together, share perspective, solve problems, and stay engaged in shaping a future that is bigger than any one company.

Austin has done an exceptional job of supporting entrepreneurs, attracting talent, and earning global attention. That momentum matters. But the future of this market also depends on what happens next for the companies that are moving beyond startup mode and into the more complex realities of growth. The path from early traction to real scale is where many of the biggest challenges begin to surface.

This is where ATC sees one of its greatest opportunities to lead.

The coming years must include a sharper focus on the companies in the middle, the businesses that are building teams, refining operations, navigating market pressure, and working to become the next generation of major employers. These companies need more than encouragement. They need access to ideas, relationships, and strategic conversations that help them grow stronger.

That is why ATC is committed to elevating the dialogue.

Networking will always matter, because relationships remain at the center of opportunity. But the next era for ATC is also about convening higher-level conversations around leadership, scaling, talent, innovation, workforce development, and the practical realities of growing a company in a rapidly changing market. The goal is not simply to gather people in a room. It is to create the kind of discussions that move companies and the community forward.

This vision also requires more engagement from the large brands with a meaningful presence in Austin.

Companies with offices here, employees here, and deep roots in the region have an opportunity to play a larger role in shaping what comes next. Austin’s future will be stronger when major employers are not just observers of the ecosystem, but active participants in the conversations that define its direction. Their experience, perspective, and leadership can help strengthen the entire community.

At the same time, the companies in growth mode bring something equally valuable. They bring urgency, creativity, ambition, and fresh thinking. When established brands, scaling companies, founders, investors, and civic leaders come together, something important happens. The conversation gets better. The connections get stronger. The future gets clearer.

ATC intends to be the connector for that future.

The road ahead is not just about keeping Austin on a list of top tech cities. It is about helping this region become a more connected, more strategic, and more resilient innovation community. It is about making sure that the companies built here can scale here. It is about bringing the right people together to tackle real opportunities and real challenges. And it is about creating a stronger sense of shared responsibility for what Austin tech can become.

The next era of Austin’s technology story should not be left to chance. It should be shaped by leaders who are willing to engage, contribute, and help build something lasting.

That is the direction of ATC, toward a bigger role in convening the people, ideas, and partnerships that will define what is next for Austin tech.

*****************

The Austin Technology Council was founded in 1992 and has been a continuing resource to unite the tech community.  As we move into Austin’s next era, ATC sees that it is very important for more collaboration between business groups.  Gone are the day of any one organization being all things to all people. There is no place for competition as a tech ecosystem looks to grow beyond where we are today. When we have the chance to co-host events, cross promote tech community events, and work together…. ATC is going to lead the way to help all the organizations in our ecosystem.  There is no “ONE TABLE” for people to wait for a seat. Austin is a city with many tables and everyone should feel they can have a voice.  We are appealing to companies who are committed to good corporate citizenship to be involved in several of the groups that help move Austin forward. This effort is not just about the Austin Technology Council, but about the best future of Central Texas. If as a community we can work for unity, the rising tide will lift all the boats.  Please help us in this effort.
