SUMMARY:ASCA Smart Cities Series: How Intelligent and Autonomous Infrastructure will drive the foundations of the 21st-Century & Industry 4.0
DESCRIPTION:The next Industrial revolution is here\, fueled by Autonomy\, Industry 4.0 requires the bridging of the physical and the digital. The convergence of 5G\, IoT\, edge computing are widely seen as the technologies that build that bridge. No single industry has a business model capable of enabling the large-scale convergence that will launch the next revolution. \nInvestment in a 21st-century Intelligent & Autonomous Infrastructure is among the highest priorities for stimulating economic expansion\, job growth\, national security\, and resilience. Edge computing\, 5G wireless\, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)\, Assured Position Navigation and Timing (APNT)\, and an ultra-resilient electrical grid will drive the largest infrastructure buildout in our nation’s history. This next-generation infrastructure will enable the digital and physical\, autonomous world fueling a trillion-dollar economic expansion. This infrastructure will create new highways to support more efficient mobility\, automated city services\, autonomous cars and trucks\, autonomous shuttles\, air taxis\, inspection drones\, and many newer intelligent city applications. \nJoin ASCA Smart Cities Series Lunch & Learn to hear more about the next industrial revolution.

SUMMARY:Austin Civic Priorities Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to better understand and help address Austin’s greatest civic challenges? \nJoin us as leaders from the City of Austin and other civic organizations share top issues and priorities for Austin at this public event hosted by the Austin Smart City Alliance. Civic leaders will share urgent and important challenges to address to help make Austin better for all\, then we will discuss how ‘smart city’ approaches—collecting data and using analytics to improve operations and decisions—can help address these challenges. \nThis Austin Civic Priorities Workshop is online on Wednesday\, September 16 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Registration is free\, and attendance is open to everyone. \nAt this workshop\, City of Austin and other civic organization leaders will share their top three priorities in concise 15 minute presentations that answer the questions: \n\nWhat are the City’s biggest needs?\nWhat are biggest challenges to addressing these needs?\nHow might data and technology help address these needs?\nWhat are the biggest opportunities ahead in this domain/area?\nWhat can companies\, universities\, and other organizations do to help?\n\nAfter all departments/speakers have presented\, we will evaluate the entire set of priorities\, identify the recurring/cross-cutting themes\, and discuss how data and technology—and Austin’s companies\, non-profits\, and universities—may be able to help solve these issues. This will enable our community to work together to formulate potentially high-impact projects. \nFinal speakers and their timeslots will be posted by September 4th. \nAttendance is free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Austin Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Austin organizations responsible for civic services and infrastructure will share their top challenges and priorities in need of solutions \nAustin Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch – Part 2 Agenda\n1:00pm – 1:15pm | Introductions\n1:15pm – 1:45pm | Workshop: Funding & Business Model Tutorial for Sustainable Smart City Projects\n1:45pm – 4:00pm | Reverse Pitch Presentations\n4:00pm – 4:30pm | Workshop: Design Thinking Tutorial for Creating Smart City Projects\n4:30pm – 6:00pm | Post Event Networking – Location TBD \nSmart cities solutions can help improve the quality—health\, safety\, mobility\, sustainability\, and more—of cities through data analytics that support decision makers and civic professionals. However\, smart city solutions are relatively new\, complex\, and require detailed understanding of cities and issues. Solution providers frequently pitch their research and business ideas generically to many cities\, so city staff and civic organization leaders are used to hearing generic solutions about complex issues that are specific to their communities. \nAt the Austin Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch\, we are taking a new approach to better serve Austin. Government entities and civic organizations that serve Austin will share their top issues and desired outcomes so that solution providers—vendors\, researchers\, civic action groups\, etc.—can learn how to develop and tailor effective solutions to achieve these specific outcomes. The Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch – Part 1 featured presenters from the City of Austin\, Travis County\, Downtown Austin Alliance\, Austin Chamber of Commerce\, the Housing Authority for the City of Austin\, and Central Health. The Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch – Part 2 will feature presenters from the City of Austin\, Capital Metro\, Austin Energy\, and more. The full agenda will be available closer to the event date. \nThe Reverse Pitch events series is about understanding Austin civic issues and desired outcomes. We have a follow up event on November 12\, 2019 where solution providers will present\, discuss\, and demonstrate potential solutions to the top civic issues and priorities in Austin. At the Austin Civic Solutions Showcase and Expo solutions providers–vendors\, startups\, researchers\, and more–can present and demonstrate their solutions to achieve outcomes presented at the Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch Events and/or the strategic plans of civic service organization & government agencies (e.g.\, the Austin Strategic Direction 2023 report for the City of Austin). \nAt the Austin Civic Solutions Reverse Pitch – Part 2\, in addition to the Reverse Pitch presentations\, we will be hosting two workshops. \nWorkshop One – Funding & Business Model Tutorial for Sustainable Smart City Projects: from revenue sharing to crowd sourcing to grants to city funding to foundations and more—have been used to seed and sustain smart cities projects\, and this will help you decide which might apply to your projects \nWorkshop Two – Design Thinking Tutorial for Creating Smart City Projects: how to use design thinking to design a great project\, considering all stakeholders and implications\, and maximize chances for success \nFor updated information visit our website at austincityup.org/civicsolutionsreversepitch \nIf you are interested in presenting at the October 22nd Reverse Pitch or the November 12th Showcase & Expo please contact us at info@austincityup.org.
