Director of Engineering: Ecommerce

Our client is seeking an individual with 5+ years’ experience leading a ruby-on-rails eCommerce teams so that he/she may take over engineering management for our client’s needs as a midsize D2C e-commerce business. The role’s responsibility includes the maintenance, performance, up-time and future architecture of the company’s eCommerce storefront, cart, operations and fulfillment systems. The most highly qualified candidates will not only have strong technical skills in Rails but will also have the seasoned managerial prowess that required to interface well with the leadership team. E-commerce experience is required as we expect the candidate to step into a role they are familiar with and understand well from the start. Expect technical architecture design, team hiring, team planning and cross functional coordination activities to be among the most common daily activities for this role.

Responsibilities:

· System reliability and performance of systems especially during peak sales periods

· Team hiring, retention and growth for the new and existing engineers

· Application and recommendation of best practices appropriate for the business

· Triage, planning and coordination with other departments on feature development

· Visionary leadership for future of technology platform

Requirements:

· Experience leading remote, distributed US team of Sr. Full-Stack RoR engineers

· 5+ years Ecommerce experience on rails

· Firm understanding of challenges faced by e-commerce companies from the home page all the way to the warehouse and fulfillment to the end customer.

· Understanding the intricacies of:

o Ecommerce routing, split shipments and order flow

o Rails performance characteristics and fault tolerant architectures

o Real time cost-based accounting for Cost of Goods Sold (GOGS)

o WMS/ERP systems and their role within an e-commerce organization

o International supply chain challenges as it relates to software and compliance
