SUMMARY:ChickTech High School Tech Fair
DESCRIPTION:ChickTech Austin (https://austin.chicktech.org) is pleased to announce our second kickoff weekend at HomeAway\, 11800 Domain Dr\, on December 9th and 10th. \nChickTech: High School (https://austin.chicktech.org/chicktech-high-school-faq/) is a free yearlong program that introduces 100 high school girls to technology and the local tech community. After the kickoff event\, the program continues with events that offer a fun\, positive learning experience designed to build confidence\, provide mentors and role models\, and create a positive association with technology creation. Our program will cost nothing to the participants and we will be providing transportation\, food\, sign language interpreters\, and childcare for those who need it. \nWe accepted participant nominations through October 1 from area educators for students who maybe haven’t participated in technology programs before\, and who would benefit from exposure to hands-on activities\, mentoring opportunities and career exposure. \nWe received 339 nominations from 88 teachers in 41 different schools. A week after the nomination letters were delivered over 100 girls had registered. Of those girls\, 35% are on lunch assistance\, 34% call English their second language\, and 70% do not identify as Caucasian. \nGirls will then get to choose from a number of hands-on workshop topics\, including: \n• Soft Circuits \n• Robotics \n• Game World Design \n• Web Development \n• Digital Filmmaking \n• Building a Computer \n• Smart Wearables \n• Android App Development \nFurther information about ChickTech: High School and a detailed schedule of the kickoff event can be found on our website (https://austin.chicktech.org/chicktech-high-school-faq/). \nChickTech: High School is made possible in Austin thanks to the following partners: \n• CDK Global \n• HomeAway \n• Bear & Giraffe \n• Github \n• Google \n• cPanel \n• Red Hat \nOur girls will be showing off their work at a tech fair on December 10th at HomeAway\, 11800 Domain Dr at 4:20 pm. Press and the public are welcome. Press please contact austin@chicktech.org for credentials and public please RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/ChickTech-Austin/. \nAs a volunteer-run non-profit\, we are always searching for partners who would like to get involved through donations of expertise\, volunteer time\, in-kind\, funding\, or just by helping to get the word out. Companies and individuals can learn more about ChickTech Austin at https://austin.chicktech.org and can email inquiries to austin@chicktech.org.

SUMMARY:The Power of Smart Manufacturing
DESCRIPTION:The Internet of Things (IoT) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are getting a lot of media hype lately. For manufacturing\, this revolves around the concept of smart manufacturing (or Industry 4.0 if you are based in Europe). \nNote: Request for an invite early on the website. It is a free online event\n\nThe concepts aren’t entirely new to the industry (e.g.\, machine-to-machine)\, but certainly recent technology advances allow us to bring together data capture\, connectivity\, remote control and\, most importantly\, analytics to deliver on the promise of cyber-physical manufacturing sooner than you might think. There’s a massive amount of information out there\, mostly revolving around opinions on Industry 4.0 or point-solutions from technology vendors. What’s truly lacking is an objective conversation on smart manufacturing that outlines goals\, benefits and challenges. More importantly\, most research that’s available haven’t discussed specific steps regarding implementation.\n\nUntil now.\n\nIn this webinar\, Madhu Gaganam\, Chief Digital Strategist at Logical Heuristics will present the following:\n\nContext and condensed genesis of the history of Industry 4.0\nGoals\, Challenges and Benefits of Smart Manufacturing\nBusiness Enablers driving Smart Manufacturing\nThe 6 Components of an Effective Manufacturing Transformation\nStrategy Design and the Execution Model \nThere are opportunities to improve efficiencies across labor\, materials and energy through the application of smart manufacturing principles. But businesses need to go beyond the hype of technology and the usual “siloed solution approach” which only contributes to a higher failure rate on digital innovation. A holistic and comprehensive approach that includes a balanced perspective is a must. An effective Industry 4.0 transformation must consider and leverage the people factor (e.g. employees\, customers\, partners\, vendors\, suppliers) in order to drive a truly successful digital innovation.\n\nIdeal Attendees:\nCxOs\, Head of Manufacturing\, Program Manager\, Engineers\, Strategy Officers\, Media \nNote: Request for an invite early on the website. It is a free online event

SUMMARY:Hacking a Better Hotel Experience: AI and Emerging Tech in Hospitality
DESCRIPTION:Do you have some ideas for a better hotel experience? Build them in a weekend! \nPresented by SnapShot in collaboration with HEDNA’s North American conference in Austin\, we’re hacking new solutions for hotels. The conference is bringing together hoteliers and tech vendors from around the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities within the online and electronic distribution space. The hackathon event is part of this exploration\, offering a space for discovery and new ideas for application to the global hospitality industry. \nJoin us for a 36-hour sprint implementing a variety of hospitality APIs in creating innovative\, revenue-generating\, and/or experience improving solutions for the hotel industry. The event is focused on creating solutions for hospitality that leverage artificial intelligence\, machine learning\, and other emerging technologies. \nCould you create a bot that helps match hotel guests to things to do once in the destination? What about using data and machine learning to deliver the optimal matrix of prices for a particular hotel’s room mix? Is there an application for augmented reality within a hotel’s operations — for example\, in helping ensure consistency in the way a hotel room is presented to a new guest? \nStartups\, as well as ad-hoc teams of developers and designers\, are welcomed to join this sprint hack to develop applications that solve real pain points for both travelers and hoteliers. \nFinalists will be presented to conference attendees at HEDNA\, the largest hotel electronic distribution association in the world. So not only do you get to hack at HomeAway but your app could also be seen by thousands of hoteliers and tech providers!
