SUMMARY:2026 Gateway Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Kick off SXSW with the Austin Technology Council’s annual GATEWAY HAPPY HOUR – Monday\, March 9th.  5:30 – 7:30.  Woody’s Bar. \nFor over 20 years the Austin Technology Council has hosted a party for our local tech community in the days before the world comes to Austin for SXSW. \nThis is a “Good Old Fashioned High Tech Happy Hour”…. the kind that got everything started in Austin in the 1990s. \nLast year was the biggest one EVER. And this year we want to pack the place again. \nIt was said last year “This is the one event where you see old time Austin tech and new comers (and everyone in between) coming together to celebrate the Austin Tech Ecosystem. \nWhile out of town techies are always welcome\, this party is purposely held before the crowds arrive to bring the focus on people who come from all areas of our tech ecosystem. \n****This year we will also have the CEO’s of about 20 other Technology Councils\, as the Technology Council’s of North America organization is having their annual CEO Summit in Austin March 9-11. Thus we have invited them all to come see Austin Tech in our natural environment. \nSPONSORS:\nWeaver\nPartners Real Estate\nBracewell\nWells Fargo\n  \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Discussion of "Measure What Matters"
DESCRIPTION:Join the Austin Forum for an insightful online book discussion of John Doerr’s seminal work\, “Measure What Matters: How Google\, Bono\, and the Gates Foundation Rock the World with OKRs.” In an era defined by rapid technological evolution and constant change\, the ability to set ambitious goals and rigorously track progress is more critical than ever. \nDoerr’s book introduces the powerful goal-setting system of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)\, a methodology pioneered at Intel and famously adopted by Google\, where it fueled their explosive growth and innovation. This discussion will explore why OKRs are particularly vital for tech companies\, where product cycles are short\, market demands shift quickly\, and the need for agile execution is paramount. \nWe’ll delve into: \nThe Core Principles of OKRs: Understand what OKRs are\, how they are structured\, and why they are so effective for fostering alignment\, focus\, and transparency.\nCase Studies in Success: Learn from real-world examples\, including Google\, Bono’s ONE Campaign\, and the Gates Foundation\, on how OKRs have driven extraordinary results.\nNavigating Rapid Change: Discuss how OKRs provide a framework for organizations\, especially in the fast-paced tech sector\, to stay focused on strategic priorities while remaining adaptable.\nIndividual Impact: Discover how the OKR methodology can be applied by individuals\, in tech or any career\, to define personal and professional goals\, track progress\, and ultimately contribute more effectively to their companies and advance their own careers.\nWhether you’re a startup founder\, a seasoned executive\, an aspiring leader\, or simply looking for ways to improve your personal productivity and impact\, this discussion will offer valuable takeaways for leveraging OKRs to achieve what truly matters. \nCome prepared to share your thoughts\, experiences\, and questions about making every effort count! \nMODERATOR \nJay Boisseau is an experienced\, recognized leader and strategist in advanced computing technologies\, with over 25 years in the field. Jay is the executive director and founder of The Austin Forum on Technology & Society\, which he created in 2006 and is the leading monthly technology outreach and engagement event in Austin–and now attracts national and international attendees online. SUMMARY:The Importance of UX in the Age of AI
DESCRIPTION:Our daily lives now involve almost continuous interactions with technologies via their interfaces. Artificial intelligence is changing the way we interact with some technologies: AI lets us talk to our devices naturally\, using everyday language and gestures. However\, not all interfaces are AI\, and just having AI embedded does not ensure productivity\, simplicity\, and enjoyment for all use cases. Thus\, user experience (UX) design is important to ensure our increasingly technology-enabled lives are productive\, efficient\, and enjoyable. In this presentation\, experienced UX designer Erik Summa will share how UX continues to play an important role in making technologies useful and enjoyable\, and especially how AI is changing UX and the way we design technologies for the maximum benefit of humans. \nErik Summa is an AI Experience Leader at Dell Technologies who specializes in designing intuitive human-AI interactions through natural interfaces. With 15+ years in the creative industry and over five years mentoring future designers\, he transforms complex AI capabilities into seamless\, human-centered experiences. \nSumma is an AI Experience Leader at Dell Technologies who specializes in designing intuitive human-AI interactions through natural interfaces.
