SUMMARY:Edge Computing and Data Analytics for Smart Communities and Cities
DESCRIPTION:The relentless advances in processing power and shrinkage in cost of computing\, the maturation of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics\, and the emergence of 5G communications are about to lead to a transformation of the places in which we work\, learn\, play\, and live. \nThe concept of ‘smart cities’ is not new\, but the technologies are finally maturing and converging such that in this decade we will see smart buildings\, place\, communities\, and even entire smart cities emerge. Such smart places\, communities and cities will not only be more sustainable and resilient\, safer\, and more mobile; they will even promote health\, development\, and equity. \nJoin us as Chelsea Collier of Digi.City and Rob Silverberg of Dell Technologies explain: why ‘smart’ communities and cities will transform lives for everyone; how the technologies will come together and transform environments\, infrastructure and services; and why this will lead to increase quality of life and equitable outcomes for all—if we do our parts and enact these changes responsibility and ethically.

SUMMARY:Austin Forum AI & The Future of Work
DESCRIPTION:Technologies have always served as tools to enhance our human abilities\, and work & business are among the greatest drivers of technology innovation and adoption. Sometimes technologies augment jobs; other times\, they replace jobs but create entirely new lines of work. Artifical intelligence (AI) is already powering many consumer and business applications\, but the greatest changes lie ahead. The dominant area of AI today is machine learning\, which enables us to create applications that are trained from known data and then are able to make decisions about new data and experiences. This is leading to powerful augmentation abilities for humans\, but also autonomous decision-making capabilities that could replace many human jobs—especially combine with robotics. With AI emerging so rapidly\, how will new AI applications and uses—including autonomous systems—change the workforce\, and how do we ensure the future workforce is empowered\, inclusive\, and equitable? \nJoin Sherri Greenberg and Chris Shenefiel of UT’s Good Systems initiative as they explain how AI works\, why it is revolutionary in terms of work\, how work will be forever changed by it\, and what we must do to develop ‘good’ AI systems for all our benefit.

SUMMARY:TexTalks Webinar with Dr. Peter Stone
DESCRIPTION:For robots to operate robustly in dynamic\, uncertain environments\, we are still in need of multidisciplinary research advances in many areas such as computer vision\, tactile sensing\, compliant motion\, manipulation\, locomotion\, high-level decision-making\, and many others. This talk will focus on two essential capabilities for robust autonomous intelligent robots\, namely online learning from experience\, and the ability to interact with other robots and with people. Examples of theoretically grounded research in these areas will be highlighted\, as well as concrete applications in domains including robot soccer and autonomous driving.

SUMMARY:The Changing Role of Government by Venturi Private Wealth
DESCRIPTION:Join Venturi and special guest\, Alejandra Grindal from Ned Davis Research\, at 10:00AM CT on Friday\, October 30th to discuss: \nThe effects of governments all over the world engaging in massive stimulus to combat the destruction of the global pandemic.\nWhat are the consequences of this surge in spending? Should we be worried?\nWhat can we expect going forward\, knowing that the underlying cause of the flood of both fiscal and monetary stimulus goes well beyond the pandemic.
